The goal of the events consists in the exchange of experiences between the participants aiming at improving their pedagogical competencies, conducting skills and cultural awereness. The goal will be achieved through:
- analysis of the chosen music from participants’ countries with special focus on chosen composers, differnet music styles and intercultural dimension; - analysis of chosen musical material (deconstruction of scores and their theoretical analysis); - analysis of possible techniques of conducting choral music forms from different historical period; - analysis of the styles of singing and vocal techniques appropriate to the discussed type of music - technical approach and methods of vocal trainings with special focus on warm-up techniques - enhanciement of transverasal skills of the participants with special focus on building self-confidence and improving language skills (special focus on pronunciation and accent) - elements of work-based learning during practical sessions with local ensembles collaborating with the hosting organization (practical workshops and concert at the end of the meeting). |
Arezzo, Italy

The event has been organized in Arezzo from 21st to 25th October 2017 (5 days of training activities). It was designed as a training workshop. The goal consisted in the exchange of experiences between the participants of different age and background, who already work as conductors or are studying to become professional conductors. The participants were selected from the artistic directors collaborating with partner institutions with a help provided by the experts from the local music schools and organizations providing artistic education. The activities aimed at improving their pedagogical competencies, conducting skills and cultural awareness. The goal has been achieved through:- analysis of the chosen music from participants’ countries with special focus on chosen composers, different music styles and intercultural dimension;- analysis of chosen music material (deconstruction of scores and their theoretical analysis);- analysis of possible techniques of conducting choral music forms from different historical period;- analysis of the styles of singing and vocal techniques appropriate to the discussed type of music - technical approach and methods of vocal trainings with special focus on warm-up techniques- enhancement of transversal skills of the participants with special focus on building self-confidence and improving language skills (special focus on pronunciation and accent)- elements of work-based learning during practical sessions with local ensembles collaborating with the hosting organization (practical workshops and concert at the end of the meeting).To make the training attractive for the participants, the specific measures to assure the quality of work-based learning has been applied. The project activities have been designed in a way to encourage participants’ creative and innovative thinking. The music to work at has been chosen before the workshop by the leading conductors from each partner organization. The participants had access to the scores before the trainings through the online platforms. The scores were also provided in a form of printed handouts at the beginning of the workshop. The focus was given to the Italian music from different centuries including local folk music. The 5-days training components: • Presentation of the participants. At the beginning of the training, the participants discussed about their expectations and their needs in terms of conducting and 21st century skills indispensable for conductor’s career. • A special study visit in Siena to allow the participants to assist in a work session, general rehearsal and concert of the Cathedral Choir of Siena. • Discussion about the vision of the chosen for the training music: interpretation, techniques of conducting and singing – intercultural exchange, peer-learning session. • Theoretical approach to the Italian choral music (chosen periods and composers). • Practical language session (focus on Italian pronunciation and accent).• General cultural approach – presentation and discussion on Italian music main characteristics.• Training session of auto-presentation – building self-confidence. • Work concert with presentation of skills by the most experienced conductors. • Knowing Italian conducting style – discussion session and sharing experiences in conducting methods.• Analysis of the chosen Italian choral music pieces – decomposition of the scores, analysis of chosen musical material.• Analysis of the singing techniques specific for Italian vocalists, peer learning session concerning the warm-up techniques.• Practical workshop sessions, including 10 hours of work with local choirs, peer-learning, exchange of experiences related to the methods of work used during the rehearsals with different types of vocal ensembles and choirs (practical exercises in conducting and singing).• Presentation of achievements during the concert open to the public.• Evaluation session – tips to improve the participants skills and also to improve the next training. The partners collected the feedback to assure a better relevance of the next trainings and respond to the specific needs of the learners. The work with the local choirs (Insieme Vocale Vox Cordis, Insieme Vocale Vox Cordis – female section & men section, Lux Harmonica Ensemble, Coro Giovanile Effetti Sonori) provided also a special added value to the training, because it allowed to the local choristers to participate in intercultural experience and work under different artistic directors. Moreover, the local people had also an opportunity to hear a specially organized concert at the end of the workshop.
The suggestions for possible improvements: - provide the access to the scores earlier before the workshop; -start the activities earlier during the day; - work more with the choirs or smaller vocal ensembles to have more hands on experience; - opportunity for feedback during the workshop (progress reports, debriefing); - more evaluation and self-evaluation during the trainings. |

The partners designed the trainings to assure the relevance of the training according to the evaluation made during the training, respond to the specific needs of the learners. At the beginning of the training the participants talked about their expectations and their needs in terms of conducting and 21st century skills indispensable for conductor’s career. • Theoretical approach to the Polish choral music (chosen periods and composers). • Discussion about the music chosen for the training music: interpretation, techniques of conducting and singing – intercultural exchange, peer-learning session. • Practical language session with a special focus on Polish pronunciation and accent. • General cultural approach – presentation and discussion on Polish music main characteristics. A part of the session took place in the Chopin’s museum (guided special tour) • Knowing different conducting style – discussion session between participants – sharing experiences in conducting methods.• Analysis of the chosen choral music pieces – decomposition of the scores, analysis of chosen musical material. • Peer learning session concerning the warm-up techniques.• Practical workshop with flipped classroom method (the participants sang in a vocal ensemble and commented on the experience of being conducted by one of the participant).• Peer-learning, exchange of experiences session related to – the working methods used during rehearsal with different types of vocal ensembles and choirs. During the Polish training the participants had an opportunity to work with different types of adult choirs: a male choir (Harfa – a choir with a very long tradition), a female choir from a Warsaw cultural centre, and a mixed choir (Warsaw Police Choir) and after the sessions they had a possibility to discuss different techniques of work. • About 15 hours of practical workshops with the above mentioned choirs (practical exercises in conducting and singing during rehearsals and concert.• Presentation of achievements during a final concert open to the public organized in one of the big local churches. The work with the local choirs provided also a special added value to the training, because it allowed to the local choristers to participate in intercultural experience and work under different artistic directors. Moreover, the local people had also an opportunity to hear a specially organized concert at the end of the workshop. • Evaluation session – tips to improve the participants skills and also to improve the next training.
